Good Charlotte 5th March 2006, 10:25
Despite the piercings and spiky hairdos of Good Charlotte frontmen Joel and Benji Madden, the filth and the fury of punk are not in evidence on The Young and the Hopeless. Rather, Good Charlotte lean toward the sunny power pop favored by the lighter Huntingdon Beach, California, outfits. Nevertheless, with the title track and "The Anthem" ("I'm just a minor threat"), the band appeals directly to high-school outsiders. Relationship problems are delved into in "Wondering" and "Say Anything," and they even find space to explore comic horror with "My Bloody Valentine." So they're not as intense or enraged as the hardcore likes of Black Flag or even Linkin Park. But the undeniably strong melodies this bunch comes up with have plenty of appeal on their own terms.Download

Alicia Keys 5th March 2006, 10:23
Songs in A MinorThe Diary of Alicia Keys
She may be beautiful, but Alicia Keys is a musician first and foremost. She plants herself firmly behind the piano keys on her debut, unlike many of the booty-waggin' junior divas who are crowding the R&B videoscape these days. Though many of the tracks on Songs in A Minor are embellished with adolescent angst, this 20-year-old's substantial, gorgeously soul-drenched alto putties the cracks between notes with astonishing ease. "Fallin'," the album's first single, showcases Keys at her best. She wails plaintively and passionately over rolling blues chords, in the tradition of the greats that this young talent clearly wants to align herself with--Stevie Wonder, Donny Hathaway, and Aretha Franklin. She swoops and soars over the spicy, flamenco-fueled melody that opens "Mr. Mann," one of the many winning tracks gathered here. And she digs deep into a remake of the beloved Prince B-side, "How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore?" packing more heat into her melismatic wails than most singers twice her age.

While 'Too Funky' might have been the big hit with the super-model filled video, it is these other two that are the real gems.Madonna also contributes a very good track  that is well worth the price of admission. the GM tracks are worth it alone.

Essential Mix-DJ Icey 5th March 2006, 10:22
What do you do if you're musically inclined in the strip-malled hell of Orlando, Florida? Since you're not exactly in a hotbed for good music, you've really no other choice than to spin your own. So goes the story of DJ Icey, one of the rave generation's most revered spin doctors. He sprang up in the early '90s, when every club kid wanted to hear, make, and buy old-school breaks. Icey was one of the few who actually followed through on this desire, which led to Mixmag's crowning him the King of Funky Breaks in 1998. Now that he's started his own record label (Zone Records), played at countless warehouse parties, and produced many of his own tracks and remixes, Icey proudly releases his Essential Mix disc. Following in the footsteps Fatboy Slim, Pete Tong, and Paul Oakenfold, Icey's contribution to the Essential Series is a cost-efficient and hassle-free way to bring a world-renowned DJ-producer into your own living room. Icey assembled an A-list cast of contributors for this mix: Orbital, Tsunami One, Sabres of Paradise, David Holmes, and Timo Maas all make appearances, as does Icey himself. Not bad for a self-made kiddie-rave DJ.

Music - DHT featuring Edmée 5th March 2006, 09:57

With the 2005 single "Listen to Your Heart," D.H.T. became the latest European dance act to find its American footing via Robbins Entertainment. The New York label had previously helmed singles from DJ Sammy ("Heaven") and Lasgo ("Something") to success, and the Belgium-based D.H.T. (singer Edmee Daenen and DJ Da Rick; various producers) featured a similarly propulsive blend of accessible Hi-NRG/Euro-dance rhythms, plaintive female vocals, and progressive house texture. It was D.H.T.'s glossy Roxette remake that really caused a stir, like Sammy's cover of Bryan Adams before it. "Listen to Your Heart" first appeared in Europe through Hardbounze in 2003. Issued stateside by Robbins in November 2004, by the following May it was a Top 40 sensation in various markets. D.H.T.'s previous work included a Euro-dance cover of the 1978 Sniff 'n' the Tears gem "Driver's Seat," released under the moniker Dared. ~ Johnny Loftus, All Music Guide

BoysxLife 5th March 2006, 09:55
The three "short stories" in this 1995 anthology cover familiar territory, yet they manage to make the trials and tribulations of being gay in a hostile world feel fresh. That could be because the shorts in Boys Life explore very personal, autobiographical reminiscences for their directors, Brian Sloan, Raoul O'Connell, and Robert Lee King. Of the three half-hour films, "Pool Days" and "A Friend of Dorothy" deliver the most fun and poignancy over coming out of the closet. Their youthful heroes find they have crushes on the most handsome--and often unavailable--men, who heartbreakingly delight in teasing and taunting these smitten suitors. "A Friend of Dorothy" also reeks of Woody Allen reverie, as its lovelorn NYU student treks through the park in its autumnal glory--resembling Hannah and Her Sisters and Husbands and Wives in tone. The third installment of the trilogy is most painful. "The Disco Years" chronicles the heartache and self-deception that is often a part of struggling through high school, with its echelons of command and cruel taunts, as a gay teen. Together, these stories form a definitive trilogy that examines the agony and joy of being "different."Download

Trick 5th March 2006, 09:49
Gabriel is a young, aspireing musical composer whose life seems stuck in the first Act. With nothing happening in his love life, he spends most of his time with his best friend – drama queen and ultimate -bleep--hag, Katherine.

When his new musical number gets a critical reception, a theatre colleague, Perry, tells Gabriel that he needs to get a life before he can write about one – so he heads straight for his local gay bar.

There, he spots hot go-go boy Mark, and before long Gabriel has all the ingredients for the perfect one-night stand- except somewhere to go.

And so begins an all-night odyssey that finds Gabriel and Mark bouncing all over downtown Manhattan as fate, friends and misunderstandings conspire to keep them from coming together
